  Independence Day is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed on June 12, commemorating the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898.  Challenging three centuries of Spanish colonial rule, Filipinos first declared their independence on June 12, 1898. That day, leaders of the Philippine Revolution gathered in the city of Cavite, where Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the country’s freedom from Spain.

Binatbatan Festival of the Arts

  The Viva Vigan Festival of Arts is celebrated during the first week of the month of May. It was started in 1993 by the Save Vigan Ancestral Homes Association, Inc. (SVAHAI) to promote awareness of the value of the historic town, which was hoped to strengthen resolve to preserve and protect this heritage site.  ”Binatbatan” is the process of beating cotton pods to remove the seeds for Abel weaving. For the past sixteen years, the festival of arts has been successful in drumming up attention for Vigan’s ancestral houses. With the help of national and local agencies, as well as media, arts and non-governmental supporters, the festival has also succeeded in promoting other aspects of Vigan. Its popularity has even benefited the whole tourism industry of the northern region, bringing in tens of thousands of local and foreign tourists curious to explore and have a “northern experience.”

              Women’s health really matters for women represent the foundation of the family’s health, ensuring they have access to quality care also can lead to improved health for children and families. It’s very important than that women must always possess good health. It is through good health that lead people just like the women all around the world achieve the purpose of their lives and that is to work for the common good. Indeed, women play a vital role in attaining progress of a certain nation. They are the nation’s Human Resources because they are important part of nation’s manpower.

      Vaccinating your children reduces their risk of being infected with COVID-19, which can help keep them from being sick.   Everyone is at risk for contracting COVID-19, and symptoms can be severe at any age. Especially considering the more contagious omicron variant, children are at risk for contracting and spreading the virus.  Vaccination not only reduces the risk of your child becoming infected, but it also slows the spread of the disease by preventing it from being passed onto others at school, like teachers, staff, and school administrators.

Araw ng Bataan

       The Day of Valor, officially known as Araw ng Kagitingan, is a national observance in the Philippines which commemorates the fall of Bataan to Japanese troops during World War II. It falls every April 9, although in 2009, its celebration was moved to April 6 to avoid it from coinciding with Maundy Thursday. Araw ng Kagitingan is a regular holiday in the Philippines and occurs on or around April 9. Many streets are closed and public transport routes may be redirected to give way for parades. Malls and other leisure areas remain open and most people may go to these places and use this day as a family day. 

Lenten Season

     Lent or kwaresma in Filipino is the season wherein Filipino people recall Christ’s passion, his suffering, death and resurrection. In Eastern churches Lent begins on the Monday of the seventh week before Easter and ends on the Friday that is nine days before Easter. It is a time we set aside each year to remember the love of God that is poured out through Christ Jesus on the cross in his death.
